2/28/2024 0 Comments Hanford sentinel avenal water![]() The crew toiled for 19 months, drilling past the 7,000-foot (2,100 m) mark. On March 27, 1927, the Milham Exploration Company began work on Elliot No. The first Kettleman Hills well was drilled in 1900, followed by countless unproductive efforts. Native Americans had always known oil was in the hills, with natural seepage around Coalinga and Tar Canyon. Oil, however, would bring fame, fortune and people to the area. This area was covered with wild oats, "waist high," that looked like golden silk and covered the Kettleman Plains.Įarly American settlers arrived in the Kettleman Hills during the 1850s with dreams of raising cattle and farming. In Spanish, "avena" means oats, and "avenal" means oatfield. The City of Avenal was named by Spanish soldiers and explorers. Inmates are counted as city residents by both the United States census and the California Department of Finance. As of that date, Avenal State Prison held 4,165 inmates, which was about 32% of the total population of Avenal. The California Department of Finance estimated that Avenal's population was 13,496 on July 1, 2019. The prison provides approximately 1,000 jobs to residents. Many of the remaining residents largely either work at the prison or in the agriculture industry. The population was 15,505 in the 2010 census, which includes inmates at the Avenal State Prison, the first prison actively solicited by a community in the state of California. The ZIP Code for this community is 93204, and telephone numbers use the sequence (559) 386-XXXX. In area, it is the fourth-largest city in Kings County. ![]() It is part of the Hanford– Corcoran Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA Code 25260), which encompasses all of Kings County. Avenal is located 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Hanford, at an elevation of 807 ft (246 m). Avenal ( Spanish for "Oat field") is a city in Kings County, California, United States. It is estimated that this disease affects 528.7 million women and 273.2 million children under 5 years of age in the world in 2011. On the other hand, another factor that is present is anemia, which is a disorder that is characterized by a hemoglobin concentration below the specific threshold, which creates an impediment to meet the oxygen demands of the tissues. Likewise, sedentary lifestyle and genetic and metabolic factors contribute to the appearance of the disease. The causes of overweight and obesity are multifactorial among them, the most prominent are inadequate dietary practices with low consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts and high consumption of foods with high caloric density. ![]() These diseases contribute to reducing life expectancy by up to ten years and represent a high economic burden for society. Overweight and obesity represent one of the important risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, high blood pressure, and different types of cancer. According to the National Institute of Health, 42.4% of young people represented by the university population have obesity. The prevalence of overweight and obesity has doubled since 1980 and affects almost a third of the world's population, becoming a public health problem and increasing considerably, especially among university students in developing countries. The university environment represents a critical space for students regarding the adoption of inappropriate eating habits and a greater risk of overweight and obesity and anemia, characterized particularly by an intake of foods rich in saturated fat and deficient in essential minerals such as iron and folic acid. The findings of this study suggest that college students, especially males and those who are not enrolled in health sciences colleges, should be a priority in healthy lifestyle interventions, particularly nutritional education programs, to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity. The proportion of women who presented anemia and high and very high WC was significantly higher compared to men ( p < 0.001). ![]() The men presented significantly high and very high levels of % BF ( p < 0.001). There were no significant differences between men and women in BMI ( p > 0.05). A significance level of 5% was considered. ![]() The analysis of the associated factors was done using binary logistic regression. Anthropometric data and hemoglobin levels were measured. The sample was selected by nonprobability convenience sampling. A cross-sectional study was carried out in 2,285 university students from Lima, Peru. The objective of this study was to determine the body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (% BF), waist circumference (WC), and anemia in university students. The university represents a critical space for students in terms of prevalence of malnutrition. ![]() Table 10.3 Phrases of Comparison and Contrast ComparisonĬreate an outline for each of the items you chose in Exercise 1 & 2. See Table 10.3 “Phrases of Comparison and Contrast” for examples. Given that compare-and-contrast essays analyze the relationship between two subjects, it is helpful to have some phrases on hand that will cue the reader to such analysis. The organizational structure you choose depends on the nature of the topic, your purpose, and your audience. See Figure 10.1 “Comparison and Contrast Diagram”, which diagrams the ways to organize our organic versus conventional vegetables thesis. According to individual points, discussing each subject in relation to each point.According to the subjects themselves, discussing one then the other. You may organize compare-and-contrast essays in one of the following two ways: Here the thesis sets up the two subjects to be compared and contrasted (organic versus conventional vegetables), and it makes a claim about the results that might prove useful to the reader. Thesis statement: Organic vegetables may cost more than those that are conventionally grown, but when put to the test, they are definitely worth every extra penny. ![]() Take the following thesis as an example that leans more toward contrasting. Remember, the point of comparing and contrasting is to provide useful knowledge to the reader. The thesis could lean more toward comparing, contrasting, or both. The compare-and-contrast essay starts with a thesis that clearly states the two subjects that are to be compared, contrasted, or both and the reason for doing so. THE STRUCTURE OF A COMPARISON AND CONTRAST ESSAY ![]() Fast food chains and fine dining restaurants.Department stores and discount retail stores. Then come up with one difference and three similarities. Comparison and contrast could be used to evaluate companies, departments, or individuals.īrainstorm an essay that leans toward comparison. Employee advancements, pay raises, hiring, and firing are typically conducted using comparison and contrast. You have likely compared and contrasted yourself to other colleagues. Comparing and contrasting is a primary tool for many workplace assessments. In order to make accurate evaluations about a given topic, you must first know the critical points of similarity and difference. WRITING AT WORKĬomparing and contrasting is also an evaluative tool. The more divergent the two subjects initially seem, the more interesting a comparison essay will be. Rather, you might try to compare how apples and oranges are quite similar. For a comparison essay, you likely would not choose two apples or two oranges because they share so many of the same properties already. Similarly, to focus on comparison, choose two subjects that seem at first to be unrelated. ![]() Drawing distinctions between elements in a similar category will increase the audience’s understanding of that category, which is the purpose of the compare-and-contrast essay. For example, Red Delicious apples are sweet, while Granny Smiths are tart and acidic. For example, if you wanted to focus on contrasting two subjects you would not pick apples and oranges rather, you might choose to compare and contrast two types of oranges or two types of apples to highlight subtle differences. The purpose of conducting the comparison or contrast is not to state the obvious but rather to illuminate subtle differences or unexpected similarities. The key to a good compare-and-contrast essay is to choose two or more subjects that connect in a meaningful way. A compare-and-contrast essay, then, analyzes two subjects by comparing them, contrasting them, or both. THE PURPOSE OF COMPARISON AND CONTRAST IN WRITINGĬomparison in writing discusses elements that are similar, while contrast in writing discusses elements that are different. Understand how to write a compare-and-contrast essay.Explain organizational methods used when comparing and contrasting.Determine the purpose and structure of comparison and contrast in writing. 2/27/2024 0 Comments Mechanical drafting jobs![]() Please note that wage data are not available at the city or ZIP code level. She ran the party-sponsored Oakland Community School for children from 1973 to 1981. “There was a conversation about the posture, that we didn’t have to be paramilitary to let people know we were in defense of our community,” Huggins said. But those words also meant nutrition, health care and political education for the Black community, said Huggins, who was the first woman to lead a chapter of the Panther Party. The party eventually dropped “for Self Defense” from its name. In interviews, former Panther members acknowledged that the party’s very name drove perceptions that it only operated by force and intimidation. Perhaps not coincidentally, women are the most prominent leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement.
